I wear my work clothes more than anything else in my closet so I want to make sure that I like what I’m wearing and it’s good quality. I also like to stick to basic colours like black, white, grey and beige so I can mix and match better. Recently, I donated about 25% of my closet (maybe more) because I wanted to update my wardrobe (blog post on that soon!) But part of the update was a lot of new clothes for my new job and I found a lot of great items at a good price point. Which I was looking for because I needed a LOT of clothes and didn’t want to spend a lot for it. For work the dress code is “business casual.” I am a firm believer in “dressing for the job you want.” What you wear reflects your personality and at work, I believe that it reflects your ambition.
Here are some of my favourite essential work clothes that everyone should have in their closet that are very budget friendly:
Blazer under $35
I LOVE my Black Twill Blazer from Target. You can use this for everyday wear or for interviews. This blazer also comes in beige and gray.
Pencil Skirts under $20
All of my pencil skirts are from Nordstrom Rack & Target because I can get them all under $20. Most of the skirts from the brand Philosophy at Nordstrom Rack are around $17 and they come in MANY colours: black, grey, beige, dark grey, maroon, light pink, etc. The pencil skirts from Target are under $25 but are currently on sale for $17.
Cami
I love the v-neck camis from Target. I wear mine for work and outside of work. I like to wear mine under a blazer or sweater.
Cardigan’sunder $20
I just recently bought the Crewneck Long Sleeve Button Down Knit Cardigan Sweater from Amazon in black and white. They are very soft & look very professional. They also come in MANY colours and are all under $25, the basic colours are under $20!
Pants under $35
I’ve been buying all of my work pants from Target. Regular price pants are generally under $35 & really good quality. These are the most recent ones that I have bought & absolutely love:
Heels
I always wear heels so I need heels that are durable and will last. I like Sam Edelman heels but the caps of the heels fall off before I’ve had them a year. So I wanted to find another brand so I’ve been wearing Gianni Bini lately because they have really cute and trendy shoes that are comfortable and they are actually durable. They’re also slightly cheaper than Sam Edelman’s (but not by much). I generally spend more on shoes than clothes, but you wear one pair of shoes more than you wear one top. For an under $30 option, I also have bought heels from Target that actually lasted LONGER than my Sam Edelman’s & for a quarter of the price. I love all of my shoes that I have bought from Target. The ones I have from Target are a smaller heel (I think they’re about 3 inches) but I still love them!
Shirts & Blouses
I love Ralph Lauren shirts and blouses. But I also love Target’s shirts and blouses (and we’ll everything else). Most tops are generally under $35!
